I have just finished Alex and the Ironic Gentleman. The title alone will tell you nothing and it is the cover is misleading too because there is a giant octopus. So by the look of the cover you would think that it is about adventures on the high seas. It does have some but nothing like treasure island. This book is written with that light story telling style like Douglas Adam. What I mean is that their are points on the book where the author takes a different point to tell you something else then the story. But I like it. This book will be great to read you kids before the go to sleep.

SPOILER
Alex who lives with her uncle help her sixth grade teacher to find his family fortune. To bad the Uncle get kill early in the book and the Teacher gets kidnapped by pirates. So it up to Alex to find the infamous pirate ship The Ironic Gentleman. Off Alex goes for the adventure and this is where it a take a strange turn. She meets a bunch of "Alice in Wonderland Characters" which I can not and won't explain. After you get past those chapters the story gets back on track. So if you take out the middle strange chapter this would be a very short book or a short story.

It is going to be a movie release in 2009 I don't know who will star in the movie
