This is the third book of the Ember Series. The Story is good and entertaining. But this the prequel to the City of Ember, You can read this book total buy itself and not need to read any other in the series. It is it own story without the need of the series.

Okay if you go on this will have some spoiler, so stop if you do not want to know anything else.

This book always seemed to have a gloom presents that would lead to the City of Embers book, but it never happens. If you were like me and wanted to find out why this is part of the Ember series, well let me save you some time and just read the last chapter. It explains how the city of ember be comes and who the main character (Nickie) get to go to the city and why she was there. It just seems like this book has too quick wrap up in the end, so they can fit in to ember series.

If you are reading this because you want to know happen do even bother. but if you like a good stand alone story then this would be an fair book
